VETS Training Center
After honorably serving your country, you and many other veterans may find it difficult to transition from the front line to the work line.
Help is available.
The VETS multipurpose training center at Secure Recycling Services is open to veterans from Lee, Ogle and Whiteside Counties who were honorably discharged, are unemployed and looking for work. A special emphasis of the training center is to assist veterans with a physical or cognitive disability.
This multi-purpose service center is located at Secure Recycling Services, 629 Palmyra Road, Dixon, IL. Secure Recycling Services collects, recycles and refurbishes electronic equipment that is often obsolete and at the end of its life cycle.
An Employment Specialist at the VETS Training Center will work closely with you to give you the appropriate training and skill set. The level and amount of support will be customized to your individual needs and vocational desires.
The overall goal of the VETS multipurpose training center is to assist you with becoming gainfully employed and independent by:
- Counseling veterans on appropriate job opportunities
- Providing veterans with training, skills and job referrals
- Referring veterans to agencies that provide information and assistance with health care, financial, education, nutrition and legal matters.
What the VETS Training Center seeks to accomplish is to find a good job match for you and your future employer, because that’s where success begins.

Veterans entering the VETS program will go through a five step process:
- Job development
- Job placement
- Job site training
Assessment—The first step in working with you and developing the necessary skills for a placement is to assess your job history, skill development, area(s) of interest and appropriateness of available job openings.
Job Development—Following assessment, you will work with staff to develop a “Job Development Plan,” a tailored plan to the skills you need to develop and your areas of interest for employment.
Job Placement—As your job skills are being toned, you will be prepared for a placement in a local business - from creating a resume to preparing for an interview to arranging for transportation.
Job Site Training—Once placed, you will receive assistance from VETS program staff in transitioning to your new work environment.
Follow-up—Program staff will follow-up with you as needed, receiving periodic work evaluations from employers.
